Local Treasures: Pop’s Corn and Candy Shoppe

You'll find this Local Treasure at 28624 Harper Ave in St. Clair Shores

We are kicking off our new series, Local Treasures, with a store that found us, and we are sure glad they did! Their commitment to help other small businesses is inspiring and the variety of local goods in their store makes each visit exciting, because we find something new each time.

This may seem a little self-promoting because this is where we craft our lollipops and they carry our products as well. But even with that aside, this store is a destination that you don’t want to miss.

Pop’s makes a wide variety of gourmet popcorn, cotton candy and fresh squeezed lemonade in house. We have tried all of these products and can say from experience that they are not to be missed! To give you a taste of some of the varieties of popcorn flavors they offer, I am listing our favorites:

Maura: Cheddar Cheese

Devene: Birthday Cake

And my kids:

Lily: Bacon

Robbie: BBQ and Blazing Buffalo

Charlie: Creamy Dill

My husband hasn't had the chance to decide on a favorite. The popcorn is always gone by the time he comes home from work!

We haven’t sampled them all yet. We’re working on it – a tough job but we will volunteer for that task. I also recently brought home some of their cotton candy for Lily’s birthday and it was a hit.

We love to explore the large variety of candies they have in stock. They have many nostalgic varieties that bring me back to my youth.

But they are more than just a popcorn and candy shop. Pop’s has a passion for helping out other local businesses and they are always looking out for other local products to add to their store (that’s how we met them! They found us at the Warren Farmers’ Market). Here are just a few of the products you’ll find:

Jam’n Sisters Handmade jams, jellies and preserves made in St Clair Shores

Anatemi Soaps Handcrafted soaps made in St Clair Shores in a large variety of scents

Mystical Oasis Soy Candles Melts & More Offering all natural soy candles and melts made in Michigan

You’ll also find a great selection of handmade birdhouses, hand stamped coasters and other goodies. This store makes it easy to stick to my commitment to buy local first, because I know whenever I make a purchase, it is supporting a local business.

Be sure to check out their Facebook page to see the vast array of candy and gifts available. And share with us what your favorite retro candy you see pictured so we know what to add to our shopping list when we are there next week.
